Resveratrol Suppresses Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in Humans
A relatively small dose of resveratrol has been shown to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in Humans. Researchers at the University of Buffalo gave 40 mg. of resveratrol (in dietary supplement form) to a group of 10 adult humans while giving a placebo NOT containing resveratrol to another group of 10 adult humans. Both groups took the pills once a day for a period of 6 weeks.
The group that received the resveratrol had a decreased level of compounds that increase inflammation in their bloodstreams. They also had less free radicals (which cause oxidative stress) in their bloodstreams. Inflammation and oxidative stress have be implicated in conditions ranging from heart disease to cancer to arthritis (see the Inflammation page of Resveratrol.com for more details)..
These results are not surprising considering resveratrol is known as a powerful antioxidant and has been shown to reduce inflammation in animal models. This, however, is further confirmation that resveratrol can have a positive impact on Human health. It also shows that a relatively small dose of resveratrol can benefit humans.
